Can anyone of Cuban descent tell what Chan Chan means.  It’s probably my favourite song and I don’t know what it says.

Post Script: I had a little extra time to look into the english version of the lyrics, but I still want to know what the name Chan Chan means.

I’m going from Alto Cedro to Marcana
Then from Cueto, I’m going to Mayiara.

The love I have for you
I cannot deny
My mouth is watering
I just can’t help myself.

When Junika and Chan Chan
Sifted sand together on the beach
How her bottom shook and
Chan Chan was aroused!

Clean the dry sugar cane leaves
from the path
So I can get to that trunk
I want to sit down.

I’m going from Alto Cedro to Marcana
Then from Cueto, I’m going to Mayiara.

In the song its the name of the guy ….when Junika bottom was shaking Chan Chan got aroused i know in Papiamento it means bottom. So i guess its his nick name as he is a bottom loving man like most latin men and a cross the Caribbean.

Papiamento (or Papiamentu) is the official and most widely spoken language on the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao (the so-called ABC islands). Papiamento is also spoken on the island of Sint Eustatius.

Papiamento is a creole language derived from either Portuguese[3] or Spanish with vocabulary influences from African languages, English, Dutch, and Arawak native languages.

This is one of my favorites too from the album, next to “Candela”, that is! I also looked up the words some time ago and was just as confused but I loved the song still. Thanks Mr. Meyer for clearing things up a bit.

Can’t agree more about this song…the music is so languid but there is this incredible sexual tension..the song is about desire but not consumation. That is rare these days. I think that why I love this song.

Chan Chan happens to be my personal favorite…I loved it so much, I learned the lyrics before finding out the actual meaning of the words (which made me love it even more). Silencio is a close second, despite the fact that it always makes me cry
